SABIC’s solutions to support the circular carbon economy
SABIC, global leader in the chemicals industry, has unveiled plans to process 1 million t of TRUCIRCLETM solutions annually by 2030. TRUCIRCLETM is a set of solutions launched to help give value chain partners access to more sustainable materials, such as circular polymers and bio-based products. This includes renewable feedstock, recycled polymers, ocean-bound recycled solutions, closed loop services and design for recyclability.
They announced plans in 2019 to build a world-first small-scale commercial unit to produce certified circular polymers from the advanced recycling of used plastics, and in the meantime have been processing smaller volumes of advanced recycled materials for customers.
Construction for the company’s first commercial unit producing circular polymers in Geleen is also in its final stages, expected to deliver circular polymers in 2023.
Future plans include upscaling volumes of mechanical recycling and bio-based materials. SABIC are also exploring investment in world-scale commercial recycling facilities with capacity to process 200 000 tpy of circular materials, as well as a small-scale advanced recycling plant in Saudi Arabia.
