Training Excellence

At EnabledFuture, we truly believe that excellence is achieved through training practices designed for demonstrated results, not just time spent in a classroom. Therefore, our new Hexagon CPE training is based on inclusive and flexible teaching modes and methods designed to suit a broad range of learning styles and needs. We design in success from the get-go! Duly, the course consists of an initial foundation learning course, consisting of two half-modules. Thereafter delegates choose twelve full modules from the specialist course topic list: (Chemicals, Catalysts, Batteries, Sustainability, Critical Metals and Energy Transition).

Solving Real World Challenges

Not only do we anticipate imparting our Hexagon CPE training delegates with sound knowledge, but also the key capabilities to solve real-world challenges. The same ones that result in irritations they encounter every day in their current job roles!

Our courses are designed to give delegates the means to solve persistent work challenges, and to make their careers feel less burdensome, and more fulfilling. Furthermore, by completing Hexagon CPE training, delegates can expect to come away equipped with the skills required to meet and exceed, not just their current roles, but also to take their careers to the next level.

Hexagon CPE Intake Criteria

We invite delegates to join Hexagon CPE courses from any stage of their adult careers. Whether that be straight from further or higher education onwards. Our courses are designed to enable delegates to climb or cross the career ladder! For instance, technicians looking to achieve managerial positions or to make sideways moves into finance or marketing. Another example would be senior managers looking to achieve C-Suite positions. Serving decision makers is equally important for us. By offering structure and frameworks to benchmark and evaluate complex choices, we enable decision-making with improved clarity and certainty. Explicitly, we want to assist investors to increase their success rate in choosing and backing the best sustainable technologies.

Integrity and Success Through Continuous Assessment

At EnabledFuture, we want your course attendance to be productive and meaningful. Of course, we don’t want you to walk away with a certificate that is no more than a reward for time served! On the contrary, our Hexagon CPE training courses are designed to foster genuine professional and personal excellence. Consequently, our vision is to provide skills essential for thriving in complex, information-driven fields to a diverse intake of delegates.

The T.E.S.T. Framework

One way we aim to achieve excellence is through our T.E.S.T. framework: Appoach: Train, Evaluate, Support, Transfer. The T.E.S.T. framework combines teaching, ongoing assessment and tailored support to help delegates. We added it purposely to measure our own success and so that we can assess how well we’re doing. Our aim is always to enable delegates to apply their learning with confidence in their daily professional roles.

Hexagon CPE Structure & Modules

How is the Hexagon CPE structured? For optimal learning experiences, our Hexagon CPE framework brings together a Core Information Research Module plus specialist modules that reflect the business areas we serve across the EnabledFuture Sector Hexagons.

Essentially, delegates must complete two 3 hr core half-modules and twelve (12) specialist full modules – each 6 hours in length. The full Hexagon CPE is therefore 78 hours of study in total. As part of our flexibility pledge, we offer our delegates the ability to tailor the focus of their Hexagon CPE content. By choosing from the available specialist modules, they can steer their Hexagon CPE focus towards whichever of the specialist modules suits their careers. Whether that is chemicals, catalysts, batteries, sustainable fuels, energy transition or critical metals.

If you want to be included in the 2027 courses, or would like to take a half-module core taster course, then please contact us for further information. Drop us an email and we will send you further details of the 2027 Hexagon CPE delivery arrangements, course content and scheduling.

Core Half-Modules

All Hexagon CPE delegates are required to complete two core half-modules before moving on to the specialist modules. Each of these is 3 hours in length and together account for Hexagon point. Details of the two half-modules are given below.

Core Half-Module 1: Information Research & Evidence Assessment

This half-module is how we introduce all delegates to Hexagon CPE. In order to prepare delegates for the later modules, we first take delegates on a journey through information research techniques and evidence assessment best practice.

How does this help delegates to achieve a full Hexagon CPE? By having these skills in your inventory, you’ll be well prepared for module exercises, module assessments and simply for getting the most out of your Hexagon CPE learning experience. Not only that – but these are essential vocational skills that everyone requires for data and knowledge intensive roles.

Core Half-Module 2: Researching technologies, companies and markets.

This half-module builds on Core Module 1. We guide delegates through identifying and selecting information sources, working with patent and literature publications. Building on that foundation, we assist delegates with developing outputs and deliverables which inform and guide technology-focused business decisions.

Specialist Modules

Chemicals Modules: Chemical Value Chains & Industrial Competitiveness

Understand how chemical technologies, feedstocks, energy costs and market conditions shape industrial competitiveness. These modules examine the decisions behind investment, production, procurement and plant closure. There is a balance to be struck between attention to environmental burdens and supply-chain resilience. Our Hexagon CPE training looks to build both into decision making early on i.e., by designing them in to new projects, rather than allowing imbalances to emerge later on.

Module topics
  • Global Chemical Supply Chains, Markets & Production Technologies
  • Chemical Plant Economics, Energy Costs & Competitiveness
  • Capital Projects: Technology Selection, Scale-Up & Commercial Risk
  • Chemical Industry Restructuring, Mothballing & Supply Security

Catalyst Modules: Catalysts & Catalytic Processes

The Hexagon CPE Catalyst Modules take us to the heart of EnabledFuture’s legacy. Our CEO and trainer – Dr Michelle K. Lynch specialised in catalyst materials for her postgraduate studies at University of Reading. Since then, she has spent 30 yrs working within the catalyst sector. She is a passionate catalyst educator!

The importance role of catalysts and catalysis training

The four Catalyst Industry modules on offer in the Hexagon CPE take delegates through the history of catalyst development and a century of commercialisation. One that has seen the before, during and after of the 20th century industrial revolution.

Catalysts allowed many older, less efficient and more wasteful processes to be replaced. But despite their enormous role in achieving greener chemistry, catalysts are often overlooked heroes. The truth is that catalysts have been the essential pivot between bench scale concepts and the full scale commercial viability of today’s chemical and fuel producing industries. We want to highlight how catalysts contribute to the global economy. Currently, the catalyst market is worth over USD 40 billion, and catalytic processes contribute almost half that revenue again. But is their downstream economic impact that is truly significant – running to multiple USD trillions. The financial part aside catalysts play life-enhancing and life-saving roles. From cleaning exhaust fumes, scaling food production and development of new medicines – catalysts are truly indispensable.

Catalyst Modules – Key Benefits

Our prestigious catalyst training will take Hexagon CPE delegates through the technologies and economics underpinning industrial catalysis. Connecting supply chains from mining through to end-of-life (EOL), the Hexagon CPE Catalyst Modules give delegates a thorough comprehension of the material demands on the industry. By linking catalyst selection, process performance, throughput and market applications to metal requirements, we show just how important it is to ensure that metal is used as sparingly as possible. Atom efficiency, regenerable catalysts and recovery efficiency all matter more to the catalyst sector now than ever before. Therefore we have one module devoted entirely to the business of catalyst circularity.

Catalyst Module topics
  • Heterogeneous Catalysis & Industrial Reactor Technologies
  • Homogeneous Catalysis & Fine Chemical Production
  • Platinum Group Metal Catalysts: Production, Applications & Supply Chains
  • Catalyst Circularity: Lifetime, Deactivation, Regeneration, Recovery & Recycling

Battery Modules: Rechargeable Batteries & Manufacturing

The Hexagon CPE Battery Modules are amongst some of the most important in the program. For delegates who work in the battery sector – we recommend taking all four of the existing modules, or blending them with the Critical Metal modules. These modules take a deep dive into different battery materials, their production routes and applications. We examine the performance requirements and cost targets. We demonstrate how battery supply chain participants must achieve a tricky balancing act i.e., how to meet performance, quality specifications, and ensure safe operation, while maintaining workable economic business margins. Furthermore, how to contend with supply security challenges and variable feedstock cost and quality.

The Battery Modules teach delegates about the necessity of robust material requirements assessments – including for lithium-ion and emerging chemistries. Moreover how manufacturing choices, chemical burdens and regulatory environments are impacting the battery supply chain. Here we draw on the skills from the Core Modules to establish and evaluate the evidence base for technology claims with a view to building a defensible picture of future adoption.

Battery Module topics
  • Rechargeable Battery Chemistries, Materials & Supply Chains
  • Cathodes, Anodes & Electrolytes: Technology Selection & Commercialisation
  • Battery Manufacturing: Solvents, Aqueous Processing & Dry Electrodes
  • Battery Failure, Safety & Technology Due Diligence

Critical Metals Modules: Critical Metals, Recovery & Recycling

The Hexagon CPE Critical Metals Modules are of high importance across all the others. Therefore we recommend delegates to complete at least one of these as part of their overall specialist module choices. Specifically the course on Critical Metal Supply Chains serves as good introduction and non-technical overview of the area and key commercial topics. Between the four modules delegates can expect to gain the understanding of routes through which critical metals enter industrial supply chains. Furthermore, how they are returned through recovery and recycling. The Critical Metals modules content is not academic, instead it sticks closely to industrial practice.

Through commercial case studies, we examine process choices, material quality, commercial viability and the practical limits of metal circularity. However, the modules are also forward looking – and in each one, we take delegates through the key emerging innovations. For example the Battery Recycling module covers direct recycling, battery reuse, design for longevity and design for recycle.

Critical Metal Module topics
  • Critical Metal Supply Chains, Global Capacity, Trade & Industrial Dependencies
  • Hydrometallurgy, Separation & Metal Recovery Technologies
  • Battery Recycling: Process Routes, Product Quality & Economics
  • Platinum Group Metals: Technologies for Achieving Higher Atom Efficiency

Sustainability Modules: Lifecycle Chemical Safety & Responsible Science

The Hexagon CPE Sustainability Modules focus on assessing chemical technologies across production, use, recovery and disposal. These modules connect toxicology, exposure, process design and governance with the practical consequences of industrial decisions. Participants learn to examine assumptions, identify evidence gaps and scrutinise claims about safety and sustainability.

Sustainability Module topics
  • Lifecycle Chemical Safety: Hazard, Exposure & Environmental Fate
  • Industrial Solvents: Toxicity, Substitution & Recovery
  • Chemical Regulation, Controlled Substances & Supply-Chain Implications
  • Responsible Science: Evidence Quality, Accountability & Sustainability Claims

Energy Transition Modules: Sustainable Fuels, Hydrogen & Industrial Energy Transition
